At the age of six, Dr. Elizabeth Murray was already saying that she was going to be a veterinarian when she grew up. Animals have always been a big part of her life and when she was a child collected stuffed animals instead of Barbies or dolls. At the age of 14, she had her first experience working with animals, by volunteering at the Humane Society in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama.
"Learning how to care for so many of those animals was a dream come true for me. It also brought into perspective for me how many animals there are that do not have loving homes. That early experience has motivated me to provide excellent care to my patients, and open conversations with our clients to help them understand how they can best care for their pets."
Dr. Elizabeth Murray earned her bachelors degree in pre-veterinary studies at Auburn University. She received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine Tuskegee, Alabama. She began her career in Opelika Alabama, before marrying Dr. Ron Murray and joining him at West Market Veterinary Hospital.
"Veterinary medicine is a career that I love. Sharing it with Ron makes it even more enjoyable."
Working together continues to be a wonderful experience for Dr. Elizabeth Murray. "We may not always approach things in the same way, but I know that we share the same goals." Each Doctor brings a different perspective, and they work together to provide the best care possible to their patients and clients.
Dr. Elizabeth Murray also enjoys many hobbies, these include, quilting, horseback riding and motorcycling. She is very active in her church as a member of the choir, church council, and The Social Ministries Committee. She is also a member of three quilt guilds, The Knights Templar and Via de Cristo.
Dr. Ron Murray grew up on a family farm in the Piedmont area. Shortly after graduating from veterinary school, he began ownership of West Market Veterinary Hospital. This enabled him to fulfill his dream of combining modern medicine with down-home care.
"Seeing a sick or injured patient regain his/her spirit and begin interacting with their family again, reminds me that I am blessed to be involved with such a very rewarding profession"
Dr. Ron received his undergraduate from North Carolina A&T State University, then went to Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine for his doctorate.
Dr. Ron feels doubly blessed to have the opportunity to work daily beside his wife and co-owner Dr. Elizabeth Murray.
They live on that same family farm today, and are proud that their hospital exemplifies the personal attention all of our patients and their families deserve.
He and Dr. Elizabeth have three furry children: one Boxer Eve, one cat Dottie, and a horse named Twilight.
Dr. Ron is a proud member of the Knights Templar and the Patriot Guard Riders.
